How Can I Check if a Business or Individual is Excluded or Debarred in SAM?

You can check if a business or individual is excluded or debarred in SAM (System for Award Management) by using the SAM Exclusions Search tool. Here are the steps to perform this check:

  1. Access the SAM Exclusions Search Tool:

    • On the SAM website’s homepage, you’ll find a “Search Records” option in the upper-right corner. Click on “Search Records.”
  3. Select the Exclusions Search Option:
    • In the “Search Records” section, choose the “Exclusions” tab. This option allows you to search for entities and individuals that are excluded or debarred from federal contracting and grant activities.
  4. Enter Search Criteria:
    • You can search for exclusions or debarments by various criteria, including:
      • Entity or individual name
      • D-U-N-S Number (Data Universal Numbering System)  — Now UEI Number
      • Cage Code
      • Exclusion type (e.g., Active, Archived, Proposed Debarment)
      • Exclusion status (e.g., Active, Expired)
  5. Perform the Search:
    • Enter the relevant search criteria based on what you know about the entity or individual you want to check. You can use partial or full names, as well as other identifiers like D-U-N-S Numbers or Cage Codes.
    • Click the “Search” button to initiate the search.
  6. Review Search Results:
    • The SAM Exclusions Search tool will display a list of results that match your search criteria. Each result will include information about the entity or individual’s exclusion status, type, and other relevant details.
  7. Click on a Result for Details:
    • If you find a result that matches the entity or individual you’re interested in, click on it to access more detailed information about their exclusion or debarment.
  8. Verify the Information:
    • Carefully review the information to ensure that it corresponds to the entity or individual you are researching.
